A bit of a tangent...

but interestingly, your disorder perfectly mirrors what would happen if aliens came to Earth, and tried to eat humans (or if they tried to eat any other Earth-based life, including even vegetables).

Or vice-versa: if we went to an alien planet, and we tried to eat their life forms.

In either case, it would result in DEATH and BRAIN DAMAGE!

The reason for that, is because there is a LARGE array of possible protein-patterns that life could be based upon, and function perfectly throughout the Universe.

But Earth based life, has followed just one instance, of all possible protein-patterns. All other possible (and fully functional) protein patterns are thus toxic to Earth life, in EXACTLY the same way that phenylalanine is toxic to you.

This means, that with your PKU disorder, you know EXACTLY what it would be like to visit an alien planet, and not be able to eat their food!

Metaphorically... it is a little bit as though you are like some kind of alien-human hybrid, here on Earth. You can consume some of Earth's protein-patterns, but not all of it.

This was a concept that was pointed out by the PhD scientist, and Sci-Fi writer Charles Sheffield.

Sheffield wrote a book, giving pointers for new Sci-Fi writers, to be as scientifically accurate as possible, and this was one of many major flaws and issues he saw with Sci-Fi:

the idea that aliens could consume Earth based protein patterns, and live to tell about it, which is false! THus there would be NO MOTIVATION for aliens to try to use us food!

So all those Sci-Fi movies/shows you've seen in which the main premise is the invasion of Earth, so that aliens can consume and eat humans, is HIGHLY FLAWED.

Essentially the aliens would die of your PKU disorder, if they tried that.

So in short...

very interestingly, your disorder perfectly illustrates the effects of aliens coming into contact with each other, and trying to share food -- which will be a no-go, if it ever happens.
