Lemme tell you the level though. (Chinese grandparents)

• watch anime. "CUT THAT JAP SHIT OUT"
• play the first three notes of Sakura for my piano class. "THAT JAP MUSIC IS FUCKING TERRIBLE"
• mention how I want to learn Japanese. "WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE A FUCKING JAP DO YOU KNOW WHAT THEY DID TO OUR PEOPLE" not realizing that maybe I may be referring to anime and not to joining a fucking Kamikaze Rising Sun Fuckin Banzai unit

It's completely disproportionate to whatever situation is going on and it makes it hard to take them seriously. It's the same for America (GWB2 justified shitting on every American ever constantly apparently) and like, I get it. But I really like studio ghibli and Pokémon. Please stop talking about the rape of Nanking while I'm watching cute animals do cute stuff.

I think they realized how counterproductive it was by the time I got older and they generally chilled the fuck out about Japanese stuff. It's not like I'm an Axis power apologist either, I feel like Japan has a lot to answer to, but at the same time the non-shitty parts of their culture are interesting to compare to my own! And anime.

Obviously this is only really for old people. Younger people are significantly more chill.
