Scumbag Boss: Everybody's worked for this guy before. I'll just stick to the box, I guess...

I really wish that was the case for my job. I work in IT for a security company and had the same bosses for over 9 years. Being the oldest of two IT guys, management saw me as their go-to guy for pretty much everything as the other guy was young and didn't do very much - he was just a friend of the IT boss who scored the job because of the friendship.

Two years ago I presented a piece of software to the IT boss that I thought would really make a difference in how the company kept track of guards, sites and schedules. They used a set of extremely old programs that were built in the late 90's and were magnificently flawed - in which I constantly had to fix due to poor programming.

The program I created was every program rolled into one and was very efficient and reliable, with loads of extra features (files for each guard, including pictures, information, timesheets, schedules, etc). I showed it to my boss so I could get approval to show it to the higher ups. He said the program was terrible and that the bosses would never approve it. He asked me to remove the program from my workstation and took the only disc I had with the program on it. He said he wanted to look at it some more and would return it.

Three months later I get a memo about a new program we had to start installing on the computers in the building. The memo stated that it was going to replace the older system and that there would be meetings later in the week to teach everyone how to use it. They then thanked my boss and the younger tech for their contribution along with other bullshit.

My boss used this program to help himself get promoted by claiming he and the younger tech (his friend) had built it over the course of several months in their free time. My boss was told to fill in his old position by promoting one of us and his friend was highly recommended by the higher ups.

He promoted his friend to Senior Tech which bumped his pay above mine and I remained in the same position. The worst part is that his friend doesn't even have a degree and still asks me for help on complicated tasks. My new boss is a dumbass without a diploma and my old boss is a thief who is now rolling in cash because of my program.

I have no way of proving that I built the program, and literally wasted months of my time just so everyone around me could take credit and earn promotions. Fuck this company so much.
