Teacher's Lounge: Share/Rant/Discussion Fridays - February 10, 2017

My school was projected to be an A school this year, but our population changed and I guess we're going to be a C school. Huge district and a lot of kids are being bussed over and bringing poor behavior and deficits over from failing schools throughout the district. Administration is under a lot of pressure from the district and the stress and pressure is being passed on to me.

I'm an ELA teacher and this is my first full year and my first year in my subject area (last year I was a film teacher who came in halfway through the year to babysit). I teach the honors/gifted kids and they're all expected to make gains, but now admin is concerned that they're going to lose points, so me and the other grade level ELA teacher are under the microscope, our reading coach lives in our classrooms and I'm going batty.

I love my students, I love my job, but this whole thing is making me hate work. I feel like I'm in a pressure cooker and I don't know that the coaching and sudden changes to the instructional framework are helping me as a teacher, nor do I know that it's going to help the kids make gains.

I just want to teach!!!!!!! Fuck a duck.
