Thorin's Thoughts - The Beauty of Map Balance (CS:GO)

I feel like you missed the entire point of my post. This game isn't magic. You can't just snap your fingers and make your players what you want them to be. You play on their strengths, instead of their weaknesses and thus you have teams that are particularly good on CT or T.

If something isn't even remotely viable then it's a bit disingenuous to call it a "style."

It's not a style. It's a result. You are looking at this as if this is some sort of conscious decision. It's not as if they sit down and say, "HEY FUCK CT SIDE!" Instead of making JW play passive and hold angles on CT, pronax will let him get aggressive and work frags--- because that is where his strength lies.

Even considering your idea that "Aggressive players = good T side, passive players = good CT side," is it impossible to just have a player play aggressive or passive based on which side they're on?

No, of course it is no impossible, but these are not robots. These are people. They all have different styles, techniques, and routines that work best for them. Sometimes their techniques don't pay off, or get them killed, but humans are creatures of habit. Not every player is comfortable being an aggressive entry fragger.

Not every player can sit and hold an angle for 30 seconds without moving. They all have different styles, techniques, and routines that work best for them. Just like your favorite players from fnatic have roles-- like JW being an aggressive T side AWPer, and krimz staying alive for the late round-- teams also build a cohesive strategy to win games.

If you are an IGL and you think the best way for your teams to win games is to steam roll an opponent from the start (like VP) then that's what you will do.

Envy has one of the most aggressive CT-sides in the game and dominated through a long period with it. As did Fnatic, who had one of the flashiest aggressive players through a period where they were a nearly impenetrable wall.

Yes, fnatic and Envy are the top two teams in the world. Neither one of them is particularly weak on either side. Are they both equally as good on T as CT? No.

Is it possible for every team to mimic them and also become the best team in the world? Also, no. This is how skill ceilings are raised and isn't really relevant to what you said. They have the players with the skillset to allow them to do what they do.
