TIL that John Belushi would sabotage anything written by women when he was on SNL, because he believed women were 'fundamentally not funny'

Didn’t read the article but I think these subjects are so hotly debated online now, not because women are incapable of being funny but have a tendency to take slightly serious matters and make them ultra serious. Yes, it’s a generalization, but the fruits are self evident when there are serious political matters that require our attention as people (the world over) and yet first world gender offenses stir such a large pot. I’m not talking real oppression, such as denying the right to vote, or rape, but whether or not some dead drug addict having a negative opinion about women, leading him to sabotage their efforts while on drugs, is worth anyone’s time. The dude isn’t Cosby and this isn't an epidemic.

Story aside, if women/girls could at least admit that their gender is more sensitive to slight offenses and criticism, men/boys might stop provoking and undermining them, advertisers might quit playing to their insecurities, pretty girls might stop distancing themselves from embittered outcasts, smart women from the ditzy. Many women can’t even admit to themselves when they manipulate each other through vicious psychological games. As though attesting to this behavior is an anomaly and not experienced by near everyone. The strange thing to the other gender is how openly women do this and are then surprised that men are generally immune to this behavior when it’s visited on them (which can draw more ire) and have little problem being critical of it (which some then twist to mean a general disliking of women or being outright sexist). But, men don’t fight among each other as a matter of gender unanimity. Feminists of the 60s made a point to tell other women how they ought to behave, what they ought to believe (about being a woman) and it still occurs.

What is the point of drawing so much attention to mole hills in the twitter-verse today? Are [these] women hoping what you do to each other will actually have an effect on men someday? That you’ll garner enough penis owners to stoop to such a level of sophomoric discourse about “equality” when the very systems you live under and agree to in the workplace, in your supposed “democracy“ reward anything but equality to the lower classes?

I say prioritize the grievances and consider that the relationship between men and women will never be bridged in the way you hope, because it has to do with an intrinsic biology which can not be transcended by society simply by talking it out. Humans, like any animal are driven by chemical occurrences beyond our reach; that remain mysterious to our higher minds for the sake of species survival. Hormones dictate more of our behavior than we care to admit and nature is indifferent about our appeals to enlightenment. You will have sex with people you later disrespect, you will behave like any paradox of nature. All that is required is to bear witness and be honest about where the struggles stem from, instead of projecting the thrust of your societal objections onto those around you who disagree; who don't connect it all back to the patriarchy. The villain is most often in your loins, in these petty instances. If only these hyper serious women could accept it and move on to an area where they can affect change, we'd all be better served by the effort and passion.
