Valve - Update on Christmas Issues

This is where you are saying it is impossible for anyone not in the office and on the clock to ever be contacted in regards to an emergency.

First sentence!

You think they are going to have their marketing and public relations team working on a Christmas holiday?

Most people have holidays off. People that aren't necessary for service function have the holiday off. This would likely include the marketing and PR team. This doesn't mean they can't possibly work--it just means they are not on the schedule.

They likely had a skeleton crew on just to support the service.

A skeleton crew is a minimum number of workers required to keep a service functioning. The existence of such a crew does not mean that more people cannot be added to the roster if needed.

Or maybe you just wanted to make an excuse for Valve waiting five days to release a public statement in regards to people's names, addresses, and credit card numbers being accessed.

Maybe I did! Or maybe I don't have a problem with how they handled it. I also admit I don't have working knowledge of their internal systems or pr

They identified the issue, addressed it, and fixed it in a timely manner. I have no problem with that and never suggested I had a problem with that. My problem is with the absurd and inexcusable amount of time it took for them to release a public statement.

I agree with your first statement and disagree with your second. But nothing you've said so far makes me think you "have no problem with it." I've illustrated why. You can continue to cover your ears and scream up and down like a child if you'd like.

I responded to your comment to make it clear to you that just because someone is not in the office during an emergency, that does not mean they cannot be called in.

I work for a company that provides 24/7 service. I have both had to work on days off because I was on call, and also worked on days off where I wasn't on call but my expertise was needed. You're saying I think or said otherwise, so the only conclusion I can draw is that you're just trying to be a pain in ass because you've got nothing better to do. Which is fine, as that's more or less what I'm doing.

Respond if you'd like, but I'm done. Have a good new year.
