I used to loved Australia, the country that my parents chose to make their home away from a war ravaged homeland. It kills me to say this, but in the video are the reasons I have silently divorced myself from Australia. I am returning my focus to Europe, starting a business there remotely, and as it grows I will switch from going annually to moving my family there. There is a laziness in the bones of the culture, which is not anyones fault. But look at the way the mass core of Australians lap up US culture and fail to support the story tellers of Australian stories. Me and my friends in film tried to tell Australian stories through film and television, but they failed, some moved to hollywood and found success, others to Europe, England and France as successful authors living off their writing, others who were talented, funny and great and deserving, languished and eventually gave up to get real jobs. Australia cant face itself and this is evident in its media culture. This has shifted to the positive in the last few years as an awareness of what the rest of the world dis doing becomes more transparent through the internet and younger generations want their stories told, but they don't have a strong independent culture of purely australian storytelling to draw from. They can either mimic a hollywood storytelling style, like Luhrmanns screwball comedy musical or the horror genre in Wolf Creek, create their own strong individual style, like George Miller, or languish in caricature that doesn't travel well, like Kath and Kim or the castle. I hope Australia wakes up , but I am not waiting around for it any more. Sorry I had to make this rant because I am literally packing my bags and I am a LITTLE EMOTIONAL RIGHT NOW
