What company in Calgary has lost your business?

Shopper's Drug Mart. I worked for them for a few months. I have never felt so demoralized in my whole life. I felt like a worthless number. Stores are independently owned so it might have been just this one but there was such a cold and brutal corporate vibe.

Awful awful top 40 music playing all day with the music cutting out and an informercial sounding lady every 10 minutes repeating this sales pitch about their optimum card. The management lacked care for the low level cashiers and people they considered inferior. They kept most of us close to minimum wage people under certain hours so that we don't get benefits. I asked someone who had been there for a while how they go about giving raises in the store and he said you are lucky if you get 25 cents a year. I got the hell out of there as fast as I could.

When I told the manager I quit out of a pretty serious security concern I had without giving a notice the manager yelled at me "GET OUT, GET OUTTT!!". He threw me out like I was trash in front of everyone in the store. I was not yelling or being disrespectful. The second you stop being profitable to these people you are nothing to them. I looked it up and under Alberta laws you can quit if there is a direct concern for your health and safety without giving a notice so I was not doing anything wrong legally and I had previously specifically talked to the manager about the issue I was having which he did nothing about, so I feel like I was fair and my conscience is clear that I did the best I could when I was there. My supervisor in the department I was really likes me and he is even my reference. I took care of customers and worked hard.

I have worked for big companies like that (Subway, Mac's etc...) before but this was something else. This company gives me the creeps. They think that they can hide behind their suits and ties and corporate fake niceness and get away with anything. I believe in Karma and that one day, maybe many years down the road, the bad Karma that comes from them stepping on all the little people will come back to haunt them. You reap what you sow.

Sorry this was kind of long. I had not really talked about it before.
