Noticed that when I talked to my Mom more recently how “Paris Hilton is actually an excellent businesswoman and incredibly smart, never knew that”, she was all enthusiastic and “oh I know! she’s pretty great!”

Okay but then…why was her name the butt of derisive jokes regarding rich fussy women when I was a kid? We actually held a ton of intelligent discussions about the news and people on TV, so why wasn’t she a lesson in how you can be a woman who’s all dressed up AND super smart and successful? The most she got was a snort and a smirk and jokes about how she looked. There’s been an amazing amount of backpedaling for her and women like her, and I feel bad that I didn’t know or wasn’t taught better.
