Charles limped towards the doorway, swearing under his breath. Some how he managed to beat the odds. He infiltrated the barracks and defeated all his foes with no combat training to speak of. Just a regular guy trying to do the right thing with his baseball bat. He removed all the vials from the bombs and incinerated them, saving mankind. All that was left was the infected. He continued to swear to himself. Someone had to do it, but why not someone else. If they escaped the barracks and reached any population the whole world would be in danger.

"I can't do it" he said out loud.

He reached the test facility and used the key card to open the door. Inside were pods from wall to wall, each with a child inside. Some of them began to cry. Others stared at him, watching intently.

He wasn't left with a choice. The sooner it was over, the better. He walked to the control pad and hit the red button. The pods began filling with a yellowish liquid, and now all the children were screaming. It was some kind of acid. Charles covered his ears and dropped to his knees. Soon it would all be over but the sounds would haunt him forever. The pods turned an orange color from mixing with the blood of the now deceased children. Right as the screaming stopped, he fainted.

When he woke up there were people in full body suits everywhere. A detective walked up to him.

"What the hell happened to all the kids"? he said with a look of bewilderment on his face.

"I had to destroy the virus, it was the only way".

"You idiot, these kids weren't infected. They were hostages just in case things went sour. The poison wasn't even real. Congratulations, you just ended the lives of 52 children for nothing".
