My mom got into an accident because of this many years ago. There was construction on the highway that goes through this little town next to our little town so we took the backroads and came out at the intersection where the construction ends. Through traffic was stopped on the west side and the only car traveling west was way down the road. Guy stopped at the front saw us coming up to a train of cars and waved us on so we could turn left and we got t-boned as we pulled out. Turns out the dude traveling toward the intersection was doing over 60 in a (then) 45 and didn't think to even slow down for the construction zone coming up after the intersection. It was one of those shit deals. It really pisses me off that there wasn't really any legal recourse for us. It feels like it should have been dual fault with the guy going 20 over the speed limit, but we ended up having to foot everything. Thankfully he didn't sue because it's possible he could have ended up skunked and covered in legal bills.
