He has stated it's an unnecessary second job he took just to keep busy rather than stay home playing games or drinking. It's not a financial thing.

So to my mind, if he were wanting to spend time with me, it's entirely reasonable for him to refuse this one shift during the holiday season.

He is actually doing them a massive favor by working there. They would never fire him. So his job isn't at risk.

Whenever I hang out with my friends and they start ragging on him for never being around, I always defend him and I am proud of him for having a fantastic work ethic plus pride in his work.

I just wanted this one night. It was important to me.
