[Advice] Something my uncle gave me

I don't think you understand the purpose of a college education. The purpose is of course a career in either academics or the regular job market.

This is not only a restrictive sort of view, it's an insult to everything you learn in college. You are basically saying, become another teacher so you can teach other machines, or become a machine in a job. You fail to address the countless other areas where education can be useful; if you want to be a parent, there are things you should know, if you want to be an investor or travel or do anything outside of work then it helps to have knowledge.

Some people work hard next to there studies to afford own housing, you might consider that if you're not spending time on the university anyway.

I don't find it a noble cause to make some landlord rich when I'm at the most financially vulnerable stage in my life. I'll cash in my pride for a 20,000 mile round trip to the Philippines where I met my fiance, and repeat the same sort of trip every 6 months. I even missed a month of school because I had my feet up on the beach. And I'm still getting the same diploma as the guy next to me who is busting his butt, all his work is for not. How can you say it's any different when we will have the same diploma up on the wall? The difference will be a couple of Latin words that few people understand - but I will, because I managed to get educated without the hassle.

You should also consider a different university, if your current one is like high school.

Nice, insult my university. It's highly rated and accredited, so that's not an issue. Have you not heard the phrase "college is the new high school", when some McDonalds literally require a degree?

A last note, the study hard part does not necessarily refer to formal education.

It does in the context provided. It's number 1 after he mentioned that he just got into university. I guess I must have accidentally learned something in English class.
