Ancestry dna test

I did one as half of my family is unknown. Anyone what a shock it was. Here I was thinking I am English but I’m an Irish (catholic) and Lithuanian Jew. It goes to the very town the grandparents are from. Blew my fucking mind.

Explains why I carried around the ‘good luck’ mini Torah for over 15 years that an Israeli ex gave me for general good luck. That was a big WTF moment too as my only connection to Jewish culture over most of my life has been carrying that little book around. Might also explain my lifelong disdain of any and all religions.

So, half my family died in the holocaust. My mum born in 1944 in the UK was lied to about her genetics… which is not a surprise at all for the times really.

As I’m European another redditor advised I do 23andme.

Since doing this I’ve wondered what a multi-generational Australian would come up as.

I learnt a lot about myself and where I come from, which I’ve never had a sense of belonging as my immediate family are immigrants to this country.

The handing over DNA concerns me however going through life and not knowing anything about my history bothered me more than the DNA conspiracies.
