I’m suggesting that your mindset needs work. And I honestly say that with no intention of offending you or being mean.

Earlier today you were saying you were sure you would fail if you increased the weight on your set, and I assume you went to the gym and then did fail.

You then came back and said linear progression isn’t working for me I need to do something different.

In my opinion there are a few things you could improve upon:

  • Don’t go into a lift thinking you’re going to fail or do poorly. You may end up doing poorly, but the self fulfilling prophecy is a thing.

  • After you failed your immediate reaction appears to be “see I failed I was right and I can’t do linear progression” rather than following the protocol in the program for what to do if you fail. You absolutely can and will reach a point where LP won’t do the trick and you’ll need something else, but if you don’t even give it a chance to succeed how can you be so sure you’re there?

  • You didn’t give anyone enough information to give you anything more than passing advice. If you want better advice on how to progress you need to give more information. At the minimum you should be giving height, weight, sex, and in this case your current lifts that you’re struggling on. The advice that is relevant for someone who is 6’1” and 180 pounds benching 225 pounds is likely going to be different than the guy that is 6’1” 145 pounds and struggling at benching 135 pounds.

Mindset matters. A lot.
