A friend of ours' child was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Two of her 3rd grade classmates raised $65 selling lemonade to help pay for her cancer treatment.

Okay, for starts I recognize that you have some pretty firm opinions and I want you to know that I both recognize and respect that. Responding to you will be tricky, and I've been giving it some thought. I wasn't going to, but now I'd like to try.

As of now, partisan politics, although far from dead, is no longer relevant to the national discussion. That announcement came with the 2016 election. Now, before you warm up that flamethrower, hear me out.

Trump, despite what the right wing fringe might lead you to believe, is not what the republicans wanted at all. He basically trashed the GOP institutions and laid waste their carefully organized hegemony. Many republicans don't support him any more than dems would, and it shouldn't surprise you that it's for the same reasons.

So what is Trump? Is he an ideologue here to lead the way to a new dawn for the American people? By now, even the dimmest citizen is beginning to doubt that. Is he the GOP coming back to power? Well, ask Jeb about that. The GOP would shake their heads sadly.

Trump, putting it simply, is a rock thrown through a window with a note attached that says, simply, "watch it". If it hadn't been Trump, it would have been Bernie, or some other outlier from outside the establishment. The American people have had enough. We have crappy health care, our jobs are low paying and unrewarding, and the rich just seem to keep on getting richer no matter who we vote for. That goes for everyone, R and D alike.

For your information, I was a life long Dem with a solid string of 20 elections voting right along party lines. I was one of those people who was on the "D" team. It's true what you say that it was better under Bill Clinton (yes, I'm that old) and I wasn't thrilled with what I got for my Obama vote (especially around the end) but I was happy for the most part.

All that changes with Hillary. I was told that I had to vote for her because it's Trump otherwise. Well, fuck you, I don't have to vote for anyone I don't support. I was a firm Bernie supporter and when Hillary took the primaries, I knew I was out of the election. As it happens, it seems like millions of others felt as I did.

How do I feel about Trump? Well, we have to tear it all down to fix our country again, so I'll say I'm pretty ambivalent. It could be Trump, or Shemp from the three stooges, a gorilla for all I care.

We need to start thinking differently. Outside of party lines. The collective American public, if they spoke as one, could easily dwarf both the Republican and Democratic parties. If Americans had a candidate that answered to no lobby, and had no self interest, and only spoke for those they represented, I think we could save this thing after all.

tl;dr: You probably didn't read much of that, and you're just trying to get your rebuttal together to prove what an idiot you think I am. Or, I managed to shake that conviction in some small way, and you'll join us in waiting for the opportunity to begin the new revolution. Here's hoping.
