Is it important to buy name brand clothing for middle schoolers? How far do you balance being themselves but not prevent them from fitting in?

I don’t know if you’re still reading comments, but please don’t be discouraged by the responses around here. Reddit is notorious for rejecting traditional parenting ideas and generally conservative (I’m not talking about politics) practices in general.

I just have a 1.5 year old so I don’t have any practical advice to offer, but I just wanted to say: you’re not crazy. It’s okay to want to keep the big world of popular culture from your child, and it’s okay that you don’t think a 6th grader should have designed underwear. I think you should probably find some sort of entertainment outlet for your children, be it TV or games or something else, but I can’t offer any advice. Best of luck.

Reddit for advice like this is a crazy place. They’ll also encourage you to give pornography to your children and encourage alcohol use at home. Trust your instincts, read reliable, fact-based BOOKS, consult professionals (or, if it’s your thing, religious leaders), and go from there.
