Lazy high school student that didn't do shit. Is my future bleak?

Hey man, there is no reason to think you cannot be successful. I bullshitted my way through HS until junior year (when it started to become important to me). I had a rough upbringing, losing my father young and dealing with a lot of death and depression in the family. You just gotta get into college and start with a fresh slate.

Approximately 0% of things that you do in high school matter once you get into college (at least in the States). Not the ACT, not SAT, not your GPA, not your ECs. None of it matters once you get into college.

College is a chance to start new. Get consistently good grades, and once you have a handle on the academics begin to branch out and get some ECs under your belt. Try new stuff, find your passion, pursue what interests you. Focus on growing personally and intellectually. Challenge yourself. Seriously...it sounds cliche, but college is the perfect place for all of this stuff.

Just remember: you can impact your own future. You can re-write your story. If I can do it, you can do it. I start medical school in the fall, and it is because of the hard work and dedication that I put into building something more for my self.

You've got this.
