I think it’s unusual to see an all-female cabinet in any level of government, whereas it’s commonplace to see all male. This is likely why people are celebrating this picture in particular when then might not celebrate it if it was all men. I’m also not sure I can agree with your point that people applauding more women in office is demeaning to men. I have yet to see anyone commenting that this picture beat sexism, as you say, but I see about a hundred comments saying things like “4,3,2,1” or “this is a government I’d like to be behind”. Comments like those are demeaning to women, and further prove that women have to overcome an additional obstacle of simply being taken seriously to earn a position in government. I think making the caption “young new leaders” would take away from the fact that it is remarkable to have women hold office despite the overwhelming amount of sexism and sexualizing they face. If you don’t agree that they are being sexualized, again I think you should take the time to read the comment section.
