Poignant.

Not at all. Black Lives Matter is now more than just a statement. Normal, non-asshole people can agree that yes, black people as human beings matter as much as any other human being, but you’re conflating that statement with the actual movement Black Lives Matter.

A lot of people disagree with the cases BLM uses to make its point. The case of Walter Scott was a good example of a valid argument for the movement. Michael Brown, Korryn Gaines, and Alton Sterling are not. Nonetheless, BLM has latched on to basically every case where a cop kills a black person to prove their point. Yes, I am fully aware that cops do kill people unjustifiably and there are definitely problems with the justice system and policing in the US.

So it’s pretty disingenuous to say, “if you don’t agree with this statement you are saying black people don’t matter!” The movement and the statement are now synonymous, so expecting people who disagree with the movement to parrot its slogan is just a bullshit way to say “gotcha.” If you’re interested in actually changing things and not just demonizing the other side as evil you should probably take a more nuanced approach than just playing word games to make people look like racists.

Downvotes and accusations of being a Nazi incoming.
