The Proper British Response

Oh, I'm sorry mate, I misunderstood you. I thought you were talking about Catholics. I think it's wrong to disassociate religion from republicanism/ loyalists, it played a large part, but I would say both sides of the conflict were bad and committed some pretty atrocious acts, Catholics and Protestants.

Irish republicanism certainly isn't irrelevant. I wonder where in Ireland you are from. I assume Northern Ireland since you also refer to yourself as British elsewhere. If that is the case then I find it incredible that you can deny Irish republicanism is a problem. Talk about being dishonest.

There have been two republican bombs discovered this year, one of which was planted on a police officers car and exploded outside his home. There have been several republican linked shootings this year already, including the attempted murder of police officers. Last year a prison officer was killed by a car bomb for which the 'new IRA' claimed responsibility. Six gunmen armed with AKs from the CIRA were involved in a fatal shooting last year.

In the last few years alone there have been many murders and attempted murders of police in NI, including shootings and car bombs. Weapons stashes including Aks, claymores, mortars, pipe bombs are found every three months or so. The threat level from Irish related terrorism in England, Scotland and Wales was raised from moderate to substantial. In NI itself the threat level has been severe since it was introduced in 2010, while the UK threat level as a whole was only classed as substantial before August 2014.

I hate to break it to you (and as someone who is Irish I am amazed this comes as any surprise), but terrorism from Irish republicans is still a massive problem, and trying to ignore it wont make it go away.
