[Tenant - Michigan] How would you as a landlord handle a tenant (not at fault) locked out of their apartment?

They didn't get us inside. The sleeping roommate did. You do realize that people have work/school. If all the tenants leave the apartment they are essentially locked out and at the mercy of whoever shows up.

I've had similar incidents with previous landlords (also huge management companies). One time the landlord/office ignored my requests for over 2 weeks, and again for a week after I went in person, and then they sent someone 1 week later than promised. I told the guy that the wall needed to be fixed, not just the closet doors replaced, and he proceeded to replace them anyways. The problem persisted so I broke them in front of him (cuz he wouldn't remove them). Returned to the office, told future tenants not to sign, manager pulls me in, tells me to please calm down, offers me $50 gift car for food, sends a competent contractor the next morning at 8 AM (probably paid him a fortune). He fixes my wall. I also received 100% of my deposit despite having some carpet damage.

Sometimes it takes a little bit of work to get landlords to do their jobs. My family has been hustled and pushed around before, and I refuse to let that happen to anyone I know. When I was a kid, our landlord locked us out, sent a guy 6 hours later to break the door open. Then we tried moving apartments and they put an occupied unit on the lease (we found out when we tried to move in) and then MADE US PAY $400 to sign a new lease even though it was their fault
