I think the difference is that rich people who have generational wealth display themselves differently then middle class or low class people assume. That's why people say Donald Trump is what poor people think rich people act and look like.

Not to say there aren't rich people who are gaudy, but for the most part when you're wealthy you don't want to walk around the world showing that off too much because people will take advantage of it and target you. Most of the time when I see a Gucci purse, or some common status symbol item, I think that person grew up poor and doesn't know how to handle their money wisely. I definitely do not assume they are rich. It gives the opposite impression of what they intend.
