[WP] "I don't think I would have gotten away with that if it hadn't been for those meddling kids."

A hot white crack torn through the air with a crackling boom. The ground where the Overseer stood collapsed like a sack full of rocks that rolled down the slope into the river. He dropped like a hanged man, feet first. I stood a good distance away where I thought, or so I thought, was a safe distance. My shirtsleeve was cooked, blackened by the lightning that ripped from my arm. And I felt sick to my stomach. It was over charged. My legs were numb. I forced myself to stand up, as I grasped desperately at vines and slender saplings to catch my balance. The river water thrashed. The Overseer rose up as if unfazed, as if strengthened, in a transparent ruby red sphere that colored him in a blood hue. His furious yellow eyes looked right at me with large black dotted pupils. Just as he in his sphere seemed to inhale as if to blast forth a death blow, the children appeared! Teleported in quick succession, one, two, three, four around me and launched rays of frost at the sphere from their palms. The sphere erupted in a violent tempest of white steam as the warm river cracked it open. The Overseer let out a howl of pain and everything quickly culled to an icing crackle of silence. The children went into a frenzy of intonation and their frost beams grew thicker. The ruby red shards of the sphere disappeared in a virtual bridge of ice. I hit the ground with my face, “Who’s kids are these?” I grunted. My eyes rolled from the back of my head to the rumbling, thundering river as it backed up and over the banks and rushed straight for us. Boy voice, “Four!” Girl voice, “Three!” Boy voice, “Two!” Girl voice, “Think we’re leaving you behind?”
