I’m a father struggling to keep my adult son alive in Louisiana’s broken mental health care system. He’s been hospitalized 38 times in 7 years. AMA

I never said or implied that natural selection removes or should remove all harmful genes or traits. I also agree (as per the link I posted) that there may be benefits to someone with (what we would consider) mental health disorders.

Here we have though an extreme case of mental health issues, where OP has been in hospitals 35+ times, and is placing the burden and the guilt of the outcome on the society and the system. My point (albeit probably in a very crude way) was that this situation is not the responsibility or the fault of the society/system and more so of natural selection. I clearly understand that we have evolved to a point where we can challenge natural selection in many cases and many other genetic defects or health problems, however when we are discussing a case of significantly excessive hospital visits with no improvements to the patients health it may be time to accept that natural selection has had a final say. This is obviously easier said than done and I am fully aware of that as a parent myself.
