Tradition does not justify cruelty. If it did, everyone would be happy with bullfighting.

We have to define terms here. Is it cruel to eat a wild cow that died by accident? What about beef cows that are raised sustainably and humanely? I think most would agree that commercial meat farming is cruel, but where is the line? More importantly, where does society draw the line?

And culture is important. I was presenting that as one side of the argument. Every civilization has a rich culinary tradition, and that’s an essential part of society to the extent that you believe culture is worth protecting. Obviously I wouldn’t argue that “cultural value” justifies anything with respect to meat consumption, but it is something to consider in the discussion.

I don’t know if I’m “babying” anyone. I’m advocating for effective rhetoric. I think I have the same goals as the vegan guy that’s getting downvoted, but he seems to be more interested in self-righteousness than in improving the world.
