I think the power only works for people who are into their own name. I think it's well known in business/sales to use a customer's name to land a sale because you seen more friendly or something.

But for me (and people like me), it doesn't work. I don't like my name and don't like hearing it. I'm ok if it's just used to get my attention but otherwise I don't want to hear it. I don't like the sound of it, I think it's too harsh sounding/not pretty.

I'm not impressed if someone remembers it. I also don't care when people misspell it (often, the spelling is less common).

I actually prefer if people just give me a nickname or use one of my usernames.

When it comes to people I don't know well (sales people, strangers/acquaintances who are trying to seem friendly to me) then I HATE when they use my name. It's almost offensive, as if they are getting very personal with me but don't know me well enough for that.

The power of names will work on some people but drive other people away.
