A prison sentence is police brutality

Okay, so it's fine to arrest drug dealers and drunk drivers. But where do you draw the line for arrest here? It's okay to arrest people in those scenarios but not when ordinary addicts have possession of drugs. How do you know that someone in possession of meth isn't going to get high and get in a car? How do you know that they're not going to go sell it to addicted drug users? How do you know that the person in possession of the drugs isn't high at the moment of arrest? You can't sit here and cherry pick about who's right and who's wrong and who's moral and who's immoral when they're arrested for the same thing under the same law. I mean, how can you go about arresting group 1 but not group 2 when you may not even be able to tell them apart? That just doesn't work. That's an inherent flaw in your logic right there. Also, there is a massive difference between a cop arresting someone for possessing an illegal substance in public and a cop randomly going into your backyard without a warrant and shooting your dog. Or someone raping you, which I think is a seriously fucked up thing to even compare this to. And no I obviously would not be fine with rape or any of sort of heinous act like that being legal and do not appreciate being called "a shit person" because I think some laws do exist for good reason and are enacted to protect people. I do not define law and morals as the same thing and that is highly presumptive of you.

I also, quite frankly, take more issue with the law and sentencing than I do with cops in these scenarios. While cops make the initial arrest they don't sentence people. I agree, I think jail time for possession of drugs is way blown out of proportion. Most stuff has jail time that is far too long. I'm in law school so I actually study this shit. I think that soft drugs like marijuana lead to massive amounts of overbookings in jail and it's ludicrous because those drugs (and some others) do not cause serious medical problems and have great benefits for sick people, etc. But meth is like...made of paint thinner and poison. It's bad for you, it makes people act erratically, and it's highly addictive, so I really just don't think something like weed is comparable. Yes, unjust laws exist I understand that. But you can't sit here and say the actions of some in one group are excusable while the actions of others aren't.

But whatever man. Agree to disagree.
