Trudeau vows to ban military-style assault rifles, including AR-15

They didn't vote for gun control but rather economic reasons. Although my understanding is many of these factors really only started taking a notable affect a few years ago as it was described to me, but in general the economy/economic aspects is what gets people moving in elections. While social issues get a lot of attention they in general fall to the wayside. As of now, in Norway at least, you can still buy standard magazine capacities and AR-15s. You need to get a special permit now but I am not sure how that will change going forward. At least that is how it was explained to me by someone who owns an AR and some pistols in Norway.

Gun culture in Switzerland is very similar and drew a lot of inspiration from the US constitution and in a lot of ways is close to what the US was supposed to be like during its founding. Military style weapons are popular and the reason there is a right to firearms there is for militia / defense purposes. Likewise, shooting events are very popular. The main difference is that in Switzerland you need a permit to own a firearm which is similar to many states in the US, although the US doesn't have one at the national level. And CCW just isn't a thing in Switzerland (but is in the Czech Republic) but with such low crime rates I doubt anyone cares.
