Kids, this is what we call IRONY.

I think these discussions perfectly sum up why engaging in politics is a waste of time, which is a revelation I've recently come to.

For the past few years, I’ve been engaged in politics, and my views have evolved quite a bit. However, in recent months it’s become quite draining paying attention to what’s going on in the US currently. The worst part is that the mainstream media isn’t reporting on the issues in an objective or nuanced way, turning many people to seek their information elsewhere, but not without negative consequences.

I’m afraid that my generation is being led down the rabbit-hole by the massive amount of propagandists online. The internet is a gateway for these individuals, who parade as some sort of counter-culture. They gain millions of views on average whilst spewing anti-science talking points, twisting history and facts to suit their own narratives, and/or promoting genuinely harmful ideas with such equivocation. This is scary to say the least, and it’s only going to get worse.

Now, I realize it’s all a waste of time. The system is rigged, the people are being increasingly mislead, the government is overrun by bought-out politicians who appease the wealthy, and the news is incompetent to inform. I used to have some semblance of hope – that we could strive to be understanding, compassionate, caring and altruistic, while having genuine concern for the powers-that-be, but these people are very few and far in between. It feels like everyone hates each other these days, and no one is right; people are simply being led astray in all directions, and nothing will ever get better.
