The purpose of these fines is to enforce the law. The current system is not that. The current system enforces the law against the poor but to the rich it's essentially just "how much is it gonna cost me to park here?"

Well, if the city has decided that parking illegally is however many dollars of inconvenience, plus an extra few for making us enforce it, I'm all for having them pay the city for the premium parking space. We come out ahead and they overpay.

They may pay the same amount but let's not pretend the actual penalty is the same.

The rich man walks away from that without a care in the world while the poor man would go hungry for it. It's inequity.
